SHORT HISTORY OF GALATEA/WAIOHAU

In 2019, Galatea Rugby and Sports Club amalgamated with Waiohau Rugby Club. The amalgamation was a method to resolve the player shortages and ever-growing financial struggles that the two clubs were dealing with.

The amalgamation kicked off at the beginning of 2019 with meetings between the two committees. Soon, the team gathered and began training Tuesdays and Thursdays in preparation of the upcoming Eastern Bay of Plenty Men's Competition. 

​

The merge proved to be successful. The boys thrived on and off the field. On field, the boys gelled together on the field and gained countless wins in their first season. As a result, Galatea/Waiohau made it to the semi finals of the competition.

Off field, the social atmosphere absolutely thrived. The team, the committee and supporters became a giant family and lifelong friendships have developed.
